THE GIFT OF A GODLY MOTHER

In this month of May every year, a very special day is celebrated around the world, and especially here in the United
States. That day is called “Mother’s Day”. It’s around this time that I’ m reminded of a poem that I learned when I was a
small child. It did not have much meaning then, until I lost my mother. The poem is called “IF YOU STILL HAVE A
MOTHER?” by Heinrich Neumann:
If you still have a mother? Thank the Lord who loves you so much. Not every mortal can count such a great joy nor
such blessed pleasure. If you still have a mother? Be so good that your love will take care of her sweet peace. For the
one that one day carried you in her womb, continually suffers for you, believing herself blessed.
The poem goes on to say that it was our mothers who first taught us how to pray. The point I want to make is that you
are blessed. If you still have your mother…take care of her and make her proud. As for me all I have are memories,
some of what I remember is her love for:
MISSIONS-My Mother loved to work for missions, selling food, making hand craft items, and giving sacrificial offerings.
EVANGELIZING- My Mother never missed an opportunity to share the gospel. Many of those she witnessed to are still
serving God because of her.
GIVING- From her I learned to always pay my tithes and give to the work of the Lord.
PRAYING- In my mind, I can still see her getting up in the early hours of the morning to pray for her children. Even in her
last days here on earth, she always prayed for us.
Oh, I wish I could tell her I am I am trying to follow her example! If you still have your mother, give God thanks for she
loves you so much. And do not forget to hug her and tell her you love her for all her sacrifices.
PROVERBS 31:28-29: "HER CHILDREN ARISE UP, AND CALL HER BLESSED; HER HUSBAND ALSO, AND HE PRAISETH HER. MANY
DAUGHTERS HAVE DONE VIRTUOUSLY, BUT THOU EXCELLEST THEM ALL."
HAPPY MOTHERS DAY!
