Conversations with our Best Friend

We all have someone we call our best friend. It may be someone we have known since we were kids, a sibling, a parent, or just somebody we have grown close to over time. That best friend is someone we can tell anything to. They are the person we always call to talk to when we have something to share. We love doing things with them and talking to them. Some folks could talk to their best friend for hours.

However, the truth is that they can’t always be right there with us. They may think like we do but they don’t know everything that is going on in our minds and our hearts. They aren’t there when we wake up in the middle of the night from a disturbing dream or when we’re in trouble or when we just need a little comfort. And they surely can’t be there to protect us from anything life throws our way or when we are knee deep in trouble.

I want to remind all of us today that there is a friend that will always be right there with us no matter the time of day or the situation. Proverbs 18:24 says “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.” The name of that friend of course is Jesus. He is omnipresent, that means He is everywhere. We can’t always feel Him, but He’s always there.

He is always ready to listen to those that call on Him. He always wants to talk with us and listen to us and comfort us, especially when times are tough. Jesus said in John 16: 33 “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” No other friend can give us that, His peace.

The conversation I’m talking about today is prayer. Spending time in prayer, talking to God, and more importantly listening to Him should and must be a daily thing. There is nobody better to talk to. He loves us more than anyone. He proved that when He gave His life for us. He is the one that has all Power in Heaven and Earth and can do anything. He is the one that will never fail us.

But the real question for all of us is will we spend the time talking to Him and allowing Him to be our best friend. If we love Him like we say we do, we need to show Him and tell Him in a time of prayer every single day. He is our strength and comfort.

Why don’t you give it and Him a try today. I promise you a daily talk with Jesus is truly a conversation with the very best friend you will ever have.
