Bro. Provencio’s Thoughts

School supplies are on clearance, back-to-school rallies have concluded, and now another year of making memories begins. Back to school time is an American tradition. It has been over 370 years since the first public schools were formed in America, and for some of us it felt like it took almost that long to finally finish.

The story of why colonial America’s first public schools were formed is quite interesting. In 1647, it became law that once a town reach a certain size, the citizens were required to provide funds to hire a teacher. The law required this because it was the devil’s desire to “keep men from the knowledge of the Scripture.” The best way to combat this was to insure that all children were taught to read. Our first public schools were formed so that children could and would read the Holy Bible. Additionally, America’s first university required the following of all students: “Everyone shall so exercise himself in reading the scriptures twice a day that he shall be ready to give such an account of his proficiency therein.” If you wanted to be a successful student at Harvard University, you had better be well-versed in God’s word.

Today, things have changed quite a bit. The courts have determined that reading scriptures to children in school could be “psychologically harmful to the child.” Harvard has removed the words “For the glory of Christ” from their seal. What hasn’t changed is the simple truth that the enemy wants to keep us from the knowledge of the scriptures. To know God’s word is to know Him. Today it falls on us as parents to make sure we bring our children up “in the nurture and admonition of the Lord” (Eph. 6:4). This means getting involved in what they are learning at school and training them up “in the way he should go” (Prov. 22:6). I challenge the parents of the Life Church to teach the word of God “diligently unto thy children” (Deut 6:7). Their souls and the future of the church depend on it!

Pacific Coast Camp (PCC) is an Apostolic summer youth camp for the whole family. It is held each June on the Ventura County Fairgrounds in Ventura, California.

PCC is the vision of a group of concerned Apostolic pastors to promote spiritual growth and maturity for the entire family. Camp activities are designed to address the needs of young people, ages 7-25 that have never been married and have no children.

Please join us this year, June 17-22, 2018, at the Ventura County Fairgrounds for another great Camp. The Camp evening evangelists will be Jonathon Alvear, from Conyers, GA. The day evangelists will be Ron Garrett, Glendale, AZ. We are looking forward to PCC 2019!

PACIFIC COAST CAMP operates as a youth and family camp meeting combination.
The youth camp is open to young people between the ages of 7 – 25 years, single, never married, no children. It will operate as customary: campers will be placed in groups according to their ages. Each youth attending the camp will lodge in the facilities provided. Other arrangements may be made if deemed necessary by the camper’s pastor. These arrangements should be communicated by the pastor to the camp principal, and the camp principal will make the final determination.

For youth campers, meals are included in registration fee.

Private portable showers will be provided for everyone lodging on campus.

The pastor, assistant pastor or a minister approved by the pastor from the local church needs to be present at camp for any young people from that church to be in attendance.

Those outside the youth camp age (parents, small children and others) may stay on-site in tents or RVs, or in nearby hotels.

Non-campers may purchase meals for $60.00 (fifteen meals).
