Character Counts

We are taught the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (Mathew 7:12). Character is influenced and developed by our choices and it will help us to weather the storms of life and keep us from sin. We must remember that every day that we die to our flesh, nothing good dwells in us (Romans 7:18 & 1 Peter 2:24). Now we all know that only Jesus is perfect. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Roman 3:23).

Michel Josephson use to give little snippets on the radio called “Character Counts” a few years back. I would hear thngs like: “Be that person that takes the shopping cart back to the cart coral,” “Everything you do sends a message about who you are and what you value” and “We can’t live forever but what we do, can change lives forever.”
As Christians we should do what is right to build our character like; be positive, honest, caring, friendly, helpful, giving, obey those over us and to follow through with your word. We should refrain from; gossip, being fake, nosy, lying, bullying, boastful, sowing discord and being consumed by things such as technology and other things that can pull you away from God.

Some quotes on character that I found; watch your thoughts, for they become words, watch your words, for they become your actions, watch your actions, for they become habits, watch your habits, for they become character, watch your charac- ter, for it becomes your destiny. GOD is more interested in your CHARACTER, than your COMFORT. Just because you think it, doesn't make it true! You are a Male/Female by birth, you are a Man/Woman by age, you are a Gentleman/Lady by choice. If you like to talk, you should make sure; is it true, is it necessary, is it kind. Average people complain, great people adjust. Lower your standards for no one! Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me (MT 25:35-40). Your beliefs don't make you a better person, your behavior does. Your character has to surpass your appearance. You cannot hang out with negative people and expect to live a positive life. Kindness is the lan- guage which the deaf can hear and the blind can see. Your responsible for your behavior no matter how you feel. There is a fine line between being honest & being rude.
A person of good character should be saying; please, thank you, using sir & ma’am, greet each other and think before you speak. We should also; listen carefully, serve others, control temper, be humble, pay tithe and offering, be money wise, be intelligent but not a know-it-all, stay loyal, flee from sin, walk in purity, stand and sit up straight, always make eye contact, speak clearly, do your chores, be tidy, dress nicely, be well groomed, maintain good hygiene, smile and hold your head high but never your nose. Men should always; open doors for women, children and elders, look after ladies, give up your seat, treat their lady like a queen, work hard, don’t cut people down, help people become, be bold, extend a firm hand shake, work out and be strong. Women should always: stay classy, chew like you have a secret, use proper etiquette, be modest, do not RSVP to drama and shy away from gossip.
After praying, reading and studying for this newsletter, I’ve found that I need to work on a lot of these qualities for myself, to build my Christian Character. Above all, we should trust in Him, walk in His light, pray daily, read our Bible and stay full of the Holy Ghost.
