It is more blessed to give than to receive

The year was 1865 when a man by the name of William Booth began walking the streets of London to help the poor, the homeless, the hungry, and the destitute. Booth once said, “ while women weep … I ’ ll fight; while little children go hungry, I ’ ll fight; while men go to prison … I ’ ll fight – while there is a drunkard left, while there is a poor lost girl upon the streets, where there remains one dark soul without the light of God – I ’ ll fight! I ’ ll fight to the very end! ” Thieves, prostitutes, gamblers, and drunkards were among the first followers to create a movement that we know today as “ The Salvation Army ”. When William Booth passed away, thousands lined the streets of London to pay their respects with one prostitute weeping, “ this man cared for us. ”

Jesus said, “ It is more blessed to give than to receive. ”

This Christmas season when many say, “ I want, I must have, I need ” - take your family, find someone less fortunate than you and help them. Don ’ t get so caught up in your job, your education, your career, your family, that you don ’ t take the time to help others.

One of the earliest songs I learned states: “ I am blessed, I am blessed, Everyday that I live I am blessed. When I wake up in the morning, Till I lay my head to rest, I am blessed, I am blessed. ” One of the verses state: “ I have shoes on my feet, I have plenty to eat, and a home in Heaven by and by …”

Take a moment and REALIZE how much God has blessed you (salvation, joy, peace, health, church, family) and in turn help someone in need.
